Kamilla Benko's is a middle-grade fantasy novel that bridges the gap between the first and second Frozen movies. It is generally praised by readers for its deeper exploration of Anna's character and its atmospheric, sometimes darker tone compared to the films. Plot Overview

Set shortly before the events of Frozen 2 , the story finds preparing for a "Grand Tour" of the world, while Anna struggles to find her place and feel useful in Arendelle. When a mysterious blight strikes the kingdom—causing crops to die and animals to fall into a strange sleep—Anna accidentally casts a spell from a secret room in the castle. This spell unleashes a terrifying creature called the Nattmara (a "nightmare wolf"), forcing the sisters to embark on a quest to save their home. Critical Reception

While most found it a "page-turner," some critics felt it repeated the movies' communication issues between Elsa and Anna, which they found frustrating. Frozen 2: Forest of Shadows by Kamilla Benko

The book expands on Arendelle’s history, including Norwegian folklore and myths that aren't fully explored in the movies.
