The air crackled as the two Alexes squared off. The double fired first, a barrage of spheres that turned the floor into slick ice. Alex countered with a flick, transforming the ice into a field of sticky marshmallow fluff.
The Other Alex stepped into the light. She looked identical, save for the predatory glint in her eyes and the fact that she was wearing the leather jacket Alex had "lost" three years ago. Instead of an attack, a massive mirror appeared between them. The Evil Alex swung the mallet, hitting her own reflection. The glass didn't break; it rippled like water. The air crackled as the two Alexes squared off
"What is this?" the double hissed, trying to pull her weapon back. The Other Alex stepped into the light
"A reason to win!" Alex pointed her wand at the ceiling. “Rain and thunder, lightning and mist, bring back the pieces that I missed!”
With a blinding flash of purple light, the double dissolved into smoke, spiraling back into Alex’s chest. The lair went silent. Alex stumbled, catching herself on the edge of the table. She felt heavy. She felt a sudden, inexplicable urge to dye Harper’s clothes neon green. She smiled. She was back.
